Book-matched Trento marble frames a freestanding tub cast in cold-poured bronze. Morning light enters from a single east window, silvering the water at first hour.

A HOUSE WITH A MEMORY
Commissioned at the turn of the nineteenth century by a Bolzano wine family, Palais Sophie was raised on the sun-facing slopes of Gries, where Habsburg court physicians once prescribed the mild air as a cure. Palladian in proportion, southern in temperament, the villa was drawn to receive light the way a violin receives silence.
Through a century of quiet stewardship, the house passed from one attentive owner to the next, gathering frescoes, wrought iron and the patina that only time can grant. Restored stone by stone, it now opens, discreetly, to a single household at a time.

THE QUIET LANGUAGEOF THE HOUSE

Poignée rocaille
Hand-chased gilt bronze in the Louis XV manner, cast around 1902 by a Milanese atelier. The scrolled acanthus repeats the motif of the salon cornice.

Cristallo di Boemia
Hand-cut Bohemian crystal drops, strung on brass wire in the original 1899 fitting. Each pendant is polished by hand twice a year.

Lampadario del Salone
A twenty-four light Murano chandelier from the Barovier workshop, gifted to the house in 1911 on the marriage of the founder's daughter.

Marmo di Trento
Bath carved from a single block of local dolomitic marble, quarried above Trento. The vein pattern was chosen to mirror the sky beyond the window.

Seta ricamata
Silk woven in Como, embroidered by hand with gold filé thread. The palmette motif is drawn from an eighteenth-century Venetian pattern book.
pl. vi · Sconce
Applique in cristallo
Wall sconce in cut crystal and gilded bronze, made to match the salon chandelier. The candle arms were converted to electric light in 1928.

Divanetto in seta
Walnut frame carved in Bolzano, upholstered in hand-loomed silk damask from Lyon. Restored in 2019 using the original horsehair padding.

L'Enfilade
The enfilade of doors follows the villa's principal axis. Each panel is solid larch, painted in seven coats of lime-and-linseed by hand.
